Las Vegas Airline Tickets - Alaska Official State Medallions
One reason is many numismatists require a denomination of a currency from a legitimate country that has the authority to issue coinage for an item to be added to their collections. And those used in advertising by companies whose brand name on almost anything makes it collectible, a few notable exceptions are those that depict famous cartoon or theme park characters. Too often have little or no value over the value of the precious metal contained in them, while they may be aesthetically appealing, gold and silver art bars and rounds.
The 2010 issue is the Black Bear. A series of beautiful medallions minted in the Alaska Mint made their debut with the Eagle, in 1992.
Having a government sanction them allows many numismatists to embrace the Alaska Official State Medallions who might not otherwise. Since their existence is prescribed by state statue in Alaska, perhaps the reason is there is a form of legitimacy associated with them. And one can hope they will continue to find favor in the market, these Alaska State Medallions appear to have fared better than most other bars and rounds.
And the design chosen is the winning submission to the art contest, wildlife images do make beautiful medallion designs. Each year a different example of Alaskan wildlife has become the subject of the medallions. With the winning entry becoming the subject of the minted medallions, the beauty of each issue is assured by the fact that an art contest is first held.
The two Troy ounce silver medallion has had years in which fewer than one hundred were minted. Making some of the medallions escalate in value, some years have had very low mintage figures. Which has often resulted in low mintage numbers, the minting can be done only to fill the demand for the year. These designs can only be used for the medallions, by law.
There are silver sets with several sizes included. There are even medallions in silver selectively highlighted with gold. And in a multitude of sizes, the medallions are available in both gold and in silver.
They are struck as proof issues. But the final mintage cannot be declared until the year ends, the medallions are initially issued with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
